Location: Tuolumne Meadows (8,580ft 11S 292813E 4194593N)
Trailhead: Tioga Pass
Approach: There are multiple ways to access Tuolumne Meadows Ski Hut, including over Tioga Pass, Mono Pass and from the west. From Tioga pass, the route is over 10.5 miles and >4,500ft of gain.
Access is easiest in the spring when the Tioga Pass Road (Hwy 120) is open to the park entrance. This cuts the approach distance by more than half.

Ski Terrain: While most of the skiing in the immediate area is low angle and gladed this hut can provide an important respite for much more advanced to extreme terrain for those willing to skin longer distances. The unique dome features of the area make for great unique skiing and in some years quality ice climbing can be found in the area.
The hut is a great stopping point for those attempting to cross Yosemite National Park on skis or snowshoes.

Local Avalanche Resource: The area has no avalanche center. The closest center is the Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center (www.esavalanche.org) but the area is located far enough away from the crest that backcountry users in this area should be competent in creating their own forecast.
If you are not comfortable with snow and avalanche skills in this area, hire a guide.
User Requirements: The hut is open to both guided groups and the general public. Check with California Ski Guides, Sierra Mountain Guides, and Sierra Mountain Center and other permit holders for skiing in Yosemite National Park.
Booking Details: There is no booking process for the Tuolumne Meadows Ski Hut. It is available first come first serve to winter travelers.
